The Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MCMUA), of New Jersey, is seeking candidates for the position of Executive Director.
ABOUT THE MCMUA
The MCMUA consists of two Divisions: Solid Waste and Water. The Solid Waste Division implements the solid waste management plan for all of Morris County. Major solid waste operations include ownership of two transfer stations providing for the county-wide disposal of solid waste, operating a curbside recycling collection program in fifteen communities, and overseeing the associated recycling marketing contract, household hazardous waste program, vegetative waste recycling program, education initiatives and more. The MCMUA Water Division serves as a bulk wholesaler of 4.4 million gallons per day of drinking water to ten municipalities and water companies. MCMUA water originates from two well fields. The MCMUA participates in the preservation of open space to protect water resources in the county. The MCMUA has a total staff of 66 and an annual budget of $43,000,000. Its governing body is a nine-member Board of Directors.
THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION
The Executive Director reports to the MCMUA Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operation of the MCMUA including staff retention & supervision, operations, finance, maintenance, budget preparation, capital planning, contract bid & negotiations, municipality relations, open space preservation and regulatory compliance. There are seven experienced managers of these activities who report to the Executive Director.
The candidate must have as a minimum a Bachelor Degree from an accredited institution and also must have strong English verbal and written skills, as the Executive Director is the primary spokesperson for the MCMUA. Knowledge of solid waste management and planning and public water supply systems is required. A degree in engineering, master in business administration and/or public administration is preferred. The candidate must have at least five years of management or executive experience with public or private organizations that are comparable to or larger than the MCMUA in size and structure. Experience with a New Jersey utilities authority is preferred.
The salary for the position of Executive Director will be commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the experience of the successful candidate.
