In
a November 9, 2006 letter, the Morris County Municipal Utilities
Authority (“MCMUA”) notified its customers of its intention to
increase the tipping fees charged at the MCMUA transfer stations
by $5.60/ton beginning on February 1, 2007. It
was stated that the tipping fee to dispose of Type 10 Municipal
Solid Waste would be increased from $79.90/ton to $85.50/ton.
The MCMUA has decided to phase in the
necessary tipping fee increase over the next couple of years. As
such, the newly adjusted tipping fee increase will be $4.00/ton as
opposed to $5.60/ton.
The
current tipping fee of $79.90/ton for most waste types will be
increased to $83.90/ton.
Likewise, the tipping fee for special wastes types (type
10C non-regulated medical waste and type 27 non-hazardous
industrial waste) will also be increased by $4.00/ ton from the
current tipping fee of $108.50/ton to $112.50/ton.
See the tipping fee chart below for details.

It should be noted that the current
rate of $79.90/ton has been in effect since 2004 and this price
increase of 5% will be the first increase in three years.
In addition, over the past three years the MCMUA has been
exposed to significantly higher NJDEP fees, increased fuel costs
and increased contractor and disposal costs associated with
operating the two transfer stations.
Finally, you should realize that in July 2002 the
Commonwealth
of
Pennsylvania
assessed a new $4.00/ton tax on all waste disposed of in
Pennsylvania
. This includes all the waste delivered to the MCMUA’s transfer
stations. The MCMUA
incrementally increased the tipping fee by $3.00/ton between
February 2003 and February 2004 to cover a portion of this new tax
but the MCMUA has paid the remaining portion of the $4.00/ton tax
since 2004 on behalf of its customers. Click

increase.
The MCMUA appreciates your continual business and understanding of
this announced adjustment to a price increase.

related to the operations of the MCMUA feel free to contact Larry
Gindoff, Solid Waste Coordinator at the phone number or email
