ParentMCMUA Pays $167,000 to Municipalities for Recyclables

February 7, 2007, Morris Township
Nineteen (19) Morris County municipalities are receiving a combined total of $167,000 for the 19,000 tons of recyclable materials they sent to the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MCMUA) Recycling Consolidation Center in Dover, combined with other materials marketed through agreements with the MCMUA in 2006.  The amounts each municipality is receiving are listed below.

"Market conditions in 2006 remained relatively strong resulting in good prices for commodities.  The MCMUA's price received for commingled bottles and cans increased significantly.  Overall, this rebate for 2006 increased 42% over the total rebate for 2005 of $118,000.  We hope to see a continuation of good market conditions throughout 2007,” said Kathleen Hourihan, district recycling coordinator.

Because the Recycling Consolidation Center accepts and bales large volumes of paper, that paper is more desirable to markets than the smaller volumes of loose paper collected by individual municipalities.  As a result, the Center enjoys a higher degree of market stability and pricing, which in turn benefits the municipalities whose paper is marketed through the Center.
